This handmade routed wood track was built for Ford Motor Company, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Mustang. It has traveled extensively, being featured in auto shows in Detroit, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, the Oshkosh Airventure, and points East, and comes in two fitted and extremely rugged packing crates, as it was designed to be transported and set up in multiple locations.

The ultimate slot car track from Slot Mods Raceways. This track is an incredibly detailed 1:32 scale of Laguna Seca. Racing your friends and neighbors.

These custom-made Slot Mods tracks rarely come up for sale. Slot Mods is famous for its incredible detail and fabulous construction (see photos and your old Nieman Marcus catalogs), and this track, in particular, is all that and more. Most Slot Mods tracks go directly to private owners (like Roger Penske, Bobby Rahal, and Jay Leno, among others), and are made in 3-lane configurations. This four-lane track accommodates 33% more racers!

The track is currently set up in the lobby of our university's polytechnic institute, where it has been running demonstration, student, and club events for four years. Prior to that, it was set up in a large warehouse for club-only activities. And before that, it was in possession of Ford. Many more photos are available.

Track is 1/32 scale representation. Wooden track size is approximately 14 diameter. Requires one 110 volt outlet.

Scenic elements include handcrafted, period-correct, Armco guardrail, structures, signage, bridges and grandstands. Cars with spares flags, braids, wheels, tires, axles, bodies, magnets, etc. Lap length of this Laguna Seca-inspired track is approximately fifty feet, winding through five major corners plus the famous downhill corkscrew. Unlike almost every other track, this course incorporates approximately two feet of elevation changes, making it not just unique, but a very technical track that challenges every level of racer. Typical "Club" cars with brand-new drivers can achieve five-second laps in their first night of racing.

Experienced drivers run these same cars in laps in the low-to-mid-4-second range; the track record for an "Unlimited"(custom-built magnet car at 12 volts) is 1.98 seconds. Controllers are top-rated solid-state Professor Motor with several spares. The current owner added fuses to prevent overloads.

The fuses are automotive flag fuses, cheap and easily replaceable in suitable amperages. We use 1-amp fuses for most racing, 2-amp for our "unlimited" class. Note: we have blown just three fuses so far. The Laguna Seca track comes with dozens of cars, new wheels, tires, gears, and spares (nothing special or collectible, but everything you need on a daily basis), and the recessed braided contacts accommodate both magnet and non-magnet analog 1/32 race cars.

Also included are various landscaping bits. It features built-in timing, a professional, adjustable 20-amp power supply (We run 10 volts for guests, 12 for club members; it can go to 14 volts), its own computer with two timing programs (TrackMateRacing and PCLapCounter), a large Apple color screen, and everything seen in the photos. It is easy to set up.

It is currently assembled, fully operational, and ready for racing. The only thing you need to make it run is a single 110-volt power outlet.

There are numerous references to this track in literature and on line. Feel free to check out these links and to do additional research. Any questions will be quickly and truthfully answered.

Other methods can be arranged. Also AutoWeek December 20, 2010. Oey Logano, Elliott Sadler, Jamie McMurray & Daniel Hemric.

Some things you will want to know: You will need a flatbed to transport. You may want to be present for disassembly. Re-assembly is intuitive, and with just two sections of track and well-labeled wiring, everything is a snap. But if you want to take photos of disassembly and see how it's done, that can be arranged.

The university maintains strict COVID protocols, so arrangements must be made in advance. These crates are stored at the university, and must be accessed by special equipment, another reason for advance planning.

Note: The crates are padded inside and are built with heavy timbers and plywood, and were also built by Slot Mods. Each full crate weighs a bit over 3000 pounds. Exact weights and dimensions will be furnished at time of sale. The track, installed, weighs about 5000 pounds.
