Aurora AFX MONSTER FOUR LANE RACE SET From 1971-1st Year AFX Race Set-No Cars
This is the Aurora AFX Monster Four Lane Race Set from 1971. This was the first year that AFX sets were offered and this set still utilizes the older style lock and joiner track. This is a difficult set to find as it was the largest and most expensive set in the 1971 catalog. There is a small note that was included in the set (see pictures) that offers information about the substitution. No cars are offered with the set.
These are the original track pieces from the set. The list: 5--6" curves, 5--9" curves, 2--12" curves, 2--9" 1/2 curves, 2--9" straight lap counters, 10--9" straights, 8--6" straights, and 1--9" straight terminal track. Track surfaces and power rails have all been recently cleaned.
Rails are nice and shiny. No end tabs are missing. Locks, joiners, and track clips (used) are included as pictured. Original transformer (tested, working) and four original hand controllers (not tested) are included. There are also some guard rails and trestle pieces included (see pictures).I don't know if this is the amount of guardrails or trestles that came with the set (see pictures). Two clip on power taps are also included. I don't think that these were part of the original set but are a useful bonus. There is also a users manual included, but I don't think that it is the correct manual for this set. The box is very nice overall (not perfect) and does have a couple of small ultra-clear tape repairs on one side that were applied for preservation.
The track pieces are also very nice but is not perfect. All track pieces are in good, clean, usable condition and are layout ready. Again a hard to find transitional AFX set of historical note. See pictures for condition, ask questions.Allow for flash in pictures.
